Water filtration

We install and maintain water filtration in homes across Napier, Hastings and Havelock North. Under-sink units, whole-house systems, filter changes and repairs. If your water tastes off or leaves marks, filtration usually sorts it.

What filtration fixes

Taste and odour, sediment, and marks on fixtures and glassware. If your water tastes off or leaves a residue, filtration usually sorts it. If you are worried about something more specific, a water test is the sensible first step rather than guessing.

Work out the problem before you buy the gear

Every filter is good at something and useless at everything else. A carbon filter fixes taste and chlorine smell and does nothing for hardness. A sediment filter takes out the grit and does nothing for taste. Buying the wrong one is the most common way people spend money on this and end up no better off.

So: what is actually wrong, where does the water come from, and is it affecting one tap or the whole house. Three questions, and they settle most of it.

Under-sink or whole house

An under-sink unit treats the drinking and cooking water at one tap. It is the cheaper option and it is the right one if the issue is taste.

A whole-house system treats everything, including the shower and the laundry. That is what you want if the problem is sediment, or if it is affecting fixtures and appliances rather than just the glass of water.

Where it goes

A whole-house system sits where the supply comes into the building, and it needs room around it so the cartridges can actually be changed. Plenty of installs we see are jammed into a spot that made sense on the day and makes filter changes a two person job forever after. Worth thinking about once, at the start.

Filter changes

Filters have a life. Past it they stop helping and can start hurting, because a loaded cartridge is not a clean thing to be pushing water through. We will tell you the interval for the system you have got, and we can do the changes if you would rather not.

Repairs

Existing system leaking, or not doing what it used to? We work on systems we did not install. Often it is a housing seal or a cartridge that has been in far longer than it should, rather than anything that needs replacing wholesale.

What we are not

We install and maintain filtration hardware. We are not a drinking water supply assessor and we do not certify water as safe to drink. If you need that, it is a different specialist, and a water test is where you would start.

What it costs

Filter installation and filter changes are charged at our Service Call rate, and the filters themselves are additional. Whole-house systems are quoted, because the install depends on where your supply comes in. See what we charge.

Our initial call to site for minor plumbing maintenance is $224.25 including GST, then $120.75 an hour in half-hour blocks. Specialist equipment and services are charged or quoted separately depending on the job.
